Karnataka in Pitiful state! The severe flood has damaged almost everything and the ‘team rescue’ is working restlessly. The death toll has reached 48, as of today. Reports say that till Sunday, about 5.82 lakh people were evacuated. Out of which, 3.27 lakh people were shifted to 1168 relief camps. Adding to the misery, about 2694 villages have been greatly affected due to the heavy floods. Considering the damaged crops, Public/Private infrastructures, and others, the Karanataka government has estimated the loss to be as Rs.6000 crores. Thus the government has decided to seek help from the central government for an amount of Rs.3000 crores.
Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa remarked this as “worst calamity in 45 years”. “We are planning to reconstruct houses damaged in the rains. Some of the villages have to be shifted completely,” Mr. Yediyurappa told reporters. As the situation has got worsened and the environment has been in a state of grim, Union Minister Amit Shah conducted an ariel survey on flood-affected areas. Also, the red alert has been issued in coastal, central and southern regions of the state due to the heavy downpour for the upcoming 4-5 days. Also, CM has announced RS. 5 lakh as relief fund to those who lost houses.
