A.R Rahman is one music director who is loved by everyone. He is one person who has showered love on everyone and been encouraging new talents. He bowled us over with some superb tunes in the recently released Sarvam Thaalam Mayam. He has never been in any controversy but quite recently he was struck in the Bhurka controversy. After images of Isaipuyal AR Rahman’s daughter Khatija wearing a purdah during the 10th anniversary celebrations of Slumdog Millionaire turned viral, the online space had been flooded with memes, tweets and articles, criticizing Rahman, and branding him. In his career spanning close to three decades, Rahman has faced everything ranging from harsh criticism to extreme praises.
Also he has faced highs and lows, and a lot of experiences. Every time he faced a negative response for his work, he came back stronger with memorable albums.Yet again he had been targeted and subjected to negativity, involving Khatija, and Rahman has given a subtle, simple and fitting response with just three words – Freedom To Choose. Khatija Rahman has also posted regarding this in her wall. Her statement goes like this “The recent conversation of myself on stage with my dad has been doing the rounds although I didn’t expect such an overwhelming response. However, there were certain comments which said that this attire is being forced by my dad and that he has double standards.
I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour. I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing. Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgments without understanding the exact situation.
