Murali was a mild soft sensitive hero. He was someone who could consistently play the soft guy who yearned for love. In the late 80’s and the early 90’s Murali carved a niche as the one side lover in so many films. There was even a Murali reference in the recently released Meyadha Maan. Let’s look at the top 5 Murali films.
Pudhu Vasantham : Pudhu Vasantham was quite revolutionary for it’s times. It is about a four guys protecting a girl and staying together as friends. Back in the 90’s this was a very bold subject. Murali plays the initiator of the friends gang. The highlight of the film was the songs.
Idhayam : Idhayam was the film which completely changed Murali’s career. As the guy who yearned for love this film was tailor made for Murali and he holds your attention from start to finish. The tragic ending left us all broken.
Anandham : It is difficult to imagine Anandham without Murali. With Mammootty taking charge as a elder brother Murali played a loyal younger brother who holds the bonding together despite the small conflicts. Once again Murali nails the role with ease and does what is required of him.
Porkalam : Porkalam is a very important film in Murali’s career. It speaks about the plight of the differently abled. Murali plays the brother of a differently abled sister. He cares for her with all his heart but just when she is about to have her happy ending tragedy strikes leading to moving climax aided by Murali.
Vetrikodikattu : Another gem from Cheran – Murali combo. In this film he combines with Parthipen in a much needed story of how people who have the aim of going abroad get cheated. The face off with the people at the end where both the leads try to convince the crowd is truly electrifying.
