You might have heard of people conducting marriages for frogs, so as to please the Rain Gods. And, reportedly last year, when a drought prevailed in the state of Madhya Pradesh, minister of the state for woman and child development Lalita Yadav organized a unique ‘frog wedding’ saying it was a ‘logical tradition’ and not ‘superstition.’
And, even this year, the tradition of ‘frog wedding’ was organized in the month of July, as the state was facing drought. The custom is to appease the Hindu lord of rain, Indra. And, this apparently worked way too much, that the sate was flooded. So, now the frog couple was divorced to stop the rains. And, yes this is the first-ever recorded animal divorce.
As per the reports from IndianTimes, the state of Madhya Pradesh has received 26 percent more rainfall as of September 11. The rain is pouring heavily creating a flood-like situation there. 3 days ago, a 48 mm rain was recorded at Bhopal. Two gates of Bhopal Kaliyasot Dam and Bhadbhada Dam have been opened. The gates of Kolar dam were also opened after three years to release the water,’ said the IndianTimes report. Thus, to put a stop to this heavy rain, a whole ritual-ceremony has been conducted to divorce the frog couple. Members of Om Shiv Seva Shakti Mandal of Indrapuri area have performed this ‘divorce ritual’.
