It is a proud moment for all Indians, G.S. Lakshmi is the first woman referee of ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
51 year old GS Lakshmi, was a match referee in domestic women’s cricket in 2008-09, and has overseen three ODI’s and three T20 women’s matches. Recently, she got selected as a first woman match referee in the ICC International Panel of Match Referees. She has given an interview stating that she had a long career as a cricketer and a referee and she feels happy to be a part of the international panel. She also thanked her family and colleagues for being supportive all these years.
Apart from this she also thanked her seniors, ICC and BCCI officials. She has also assured that she will give her best and meet the expectations of ICC Panel. She was the first woman to join the international panel and a woman representing India in the international level make us more proud and privileged.
Meanwhile, Eloise Sheridan has joined Claire Polosak in ICC Development Panel of Umpires. Both created a history in Australia. They took the number of women in the panel to eight.
Adrian Griffith, ICC senior manager has appreciated and welcomed GS Lakshmi and Eloise to his panel and he feels very happy and excited to work with them. He also stated that Lakshmi and Eloise act as an inspiration to young women. He also wishes them for a long and colourful career.
