A debate show regarding the violence happening in West Bengal was recently conducted by CNN news 18 channel. The debate involved reporter Shreya Dhoundhial, political analyst Garga chatterjee , Bharatiya Janata party spokesperson Neha Joshi and few more. The reporter Dhoundhial started the debate in Hindi and she asked questions and made discussions with the guests in Hindi language. When Garga chatterjee was given his chance to speak about the violence happening he started saying his views in Bengali which is his mother tongue. Dhoundhial interrupted him and asked him to speak in English if he is comfortable.
Garga chatterjee got angry as she didn’t interrupt other guests when they were talking in their mother tongue. When Garga chatterjee asked the reporter she claimed that it was a Hindi show and she is not feeling guilty in anyways. chatterjee argued further stating that CNN news 18 is an English channel and it has registered itself as a Hindi channel. BJP spokesperson Neha says that Bengal chief minister Mamta chatterjee and Garga chatterjee is responsible for the violence happening there and they have to be responsible rather than concentrating on language issues. She further says that they both feel guilty for what is happening in Bengal right now.
A similar incident happened in 2014 during a debate in NDTV. Even after a number of requests put forth by Vikram Chandra, reporter the Hindi writer Chitra Mudgal was continuously addressing in Hindi. Tamil journalist Gnani Shankar started speaking in Tamil in response to the Hindi writer.
