Government bus drivers are already having a tough time due to work and salary issues. Lower middle class men try to earn money by working overtime. Apart from this there are also accusations that MTC bus drivers are asked to work without break by their head officers.
Darmaraj (40), belongs to Nammakal district. He is from Azaghupuri near Dhuraiyur. He drives government bus for his livelihood. Recently he was seen driving continuously for nearly five days without break. His was asked to drive from Bangalore to Vellore and the very next morning he was called for trip from Vellore to Tambaram. Without hesitation he agreed to the trip and he brought the bus from Konavattam to Vellore new bus stand.
Darmaraj was sick and continuous work had made him even more tired and all of a sudden he felt drowsy and fell down in the bus says one of the bus drivers. The bus conductor and other bus drivers took him to the hospital and the doctor said that he was already dead. About 1.4 lakh drivers, conductors and other men are working for nearly 22 thousand government buses running in Tamilnadu and all of them are working day and night for the welfare of common people as travelling is one of the most basic and important needs. Taking some time and respecting them with humanity is all we can do.
