Hima Das becomes first Indian woman to win Gold in World U-20 Athletics Championship


Hima Das created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold at World Junior Athletics Championships competitions in Tampere. She Clinched to top place in the women’s 400m final race on the third day of competitions.

The 18-year-old Hima Das clocked 51.46 sec to claim the top spot. Andrea Miklos of Romania came second with a timing of 52.07 sec to claim silver and America’s Taylor won bronze clocked 52.28 sec.

Das came sixth in the Commonwealth Games 400m final in Gold Coast in April since then, she has gone onto a lot of improvement in training. Gaurav failed to progress further as he finished 5th spot in men’s 400m and in men’s long jump final where M Shreeshankar finished 6th with the best jump of 7.75m. Das will join elite club Seema Punia (won bronze in discus in 2002) and Navjeet Kaur (won bronze in discus in 2002). Hope India celebrates this hero’s as celebrate cricket players they deserve a lot of appreciation.
