107-year-old Mastanamma, India’s oldest YouTuber, passes away

The Internet youtube sensation grandma is no more. At 107 the granny has finally bid goodbye to this world. She earned the love of her followers for her new recipes and her enthusiastic cooking. She shot to fame last year as the star of a widely viewed YouTube cooking channel—Country Foods—in which she whipped up local delicacies and shared cooking tips. Her grandson Laksman first shared a video of his Grandma cooking Brinjal Curry for him. The video went Viral and gained immense popularity. There were around 75 Lakhs views for the video with everyone falling in love with the grandma’s cooking.

Her watermelon chicken curry, kebabs and biriyani recipes were also widely appreciated. Karre Mastanamma lived in a small village of Gudiwada, in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Mastanamma was a daily wage labourer and living from hand to mouth. Before she became Viral she was earning only 200 to 300 per day to make ends meet. At 15, she married Bhushanam who died a few years later. After her husband’s death, Mastanamma was left alone to fend for their five children—four sons and one daughter. She celebrated her 106 birthday with money from her admirers
Our favourite Viral grandma is proof that age is not a barrier. Once her cooking became popular two or three recipes were uploaded every alternate day and both the boys rush against time, for they have to finish shooting and then go to a place where there is good internet connectivity. Now she is no more but her legacy will live on through her dishes.
