Actor Mythreya, who had accused Mysskin of cheating him by promising to make #Psycho with him and later starting the movie with Udhayanidhi Stalin, is back in news. Mythreya will play the lead role in the Kannada remake of Mari Selvaraj’s hard-hitting flick Pariyerum Perumal, and the Kannada version will be directed by Gandhi Manivasagam (who had previously directed Kalavani Maapillai starring Attakathi Dinesh).Mythreya is AVM Saravanan’s granddaughter Aparna Guhan’s husband. Pariyerum Perumal is one film which deserves to be retouched in all languages for the way it handled the caste issue. We are very glad that the film is being remade in Kannada.
A similar caste based film Sairat was remade in Bollywood. If the allegations by Mythreya is true then this Kannada film is a wonderful chance for him to get his career back on track after a setback. Pariyerum Perumal was produced by Pa Ranjith under his production banner named Neelam Productions. The original starred Kathir, Anandhi, and Yogi Babu in key roles. The film was a massive critical and commercial success with a lot of people understanding the core of the film and talking about it. Hopefully this Kannada remake will inspire more people to talk about it.
Caste based discrimination is common in India which is exactly why this remake is essential. In fact this kind of movie should be remade in all major South Indian languages so that the message can be spread to a large section of the audience. Meanwhile, Maitreya has lined up three projects in Tamil — a mystery thriller by Vivek, who has made the yet-to-be-released Narai, which he will be wrap up by May, a film with director GNR Kumaravel of Haridas fame and a political thriller by Prabhakaran, an assistant of P Vasu. We all have a new hero to look forward to.
