Thalapathy’s Sarkar Joins 100 Crore Club In 2 Days

Vijay’s big release Sarkar finally opened in theatres this Diwali. Though the word of mouth and reviews have been mixed for the film Vijay’s record at the box office is still intact. The film had reached 100 crores in two days. Sarkar had grossed 30.5 crores on the first day. This is the first time that a film has grossed 30.5 crores in Tamil Nadu on an opening day. During Diwali 2017, Mersal became the highest-grossing opener in Tamil Nadu, surpassing Kabali. It collected more than 2 crores on an opening day. In fact, Theri was the first film to cross 1 crore in Chennai. The fact that Sarkar has managed to make money at the box office despite average reviews is proof of Vijay’s box office power.

Vijay has always been a formidable star with incredible numbers for a long time and Sarkar has helped cement his position as the box office Samrat. His numbers are next only to Rajini at the box office. The film is expected to easily gross 100 crores at the box office. It has earned more than Sanju at the box office. While Sanju opened in 4000 screens in India alone on a working day, Sarkar has landed in 3400+ screens worldwide on a festival day. The Rs 47.85 crore total for Sarkar has eclipsed Baahubali: The Beginning to become the third best opening for a south Indian film after Baahubali 2.
In Kerala, the film, earned Rs 6.6 crore, has surpassed the opening day record of Baahubali: The Conclusion which earned Rs 5.5 crore. Sarkar now holds the record for the top opening day grosser in Kerala for any language and is the first time that any movie has crossed the Rs 6-crore mark in the state on day one. In Karnataka, Sarkar scored the best opening ever for a Vijay film with an excellent total of Rs 6.1 crore and is the second best for a Tamil movie, only behind Rajinikanth’s Kabali. Even abroad Sarkar is on it’s way to becoming the number one Tamil film. This is indeed a Sarkar Diwali for Vijay fans with Sarkar join 100 crore club.
