Shikar Dhawan the flamboyant opener who scored a wonderful 117 in the game against Australia has been ruled out of the World Cup due to injury. This is a big blow to India’s chances at the World Cup as Rohit and Dhawan opening together is a deadly combination for India especially in the World Cup. Dhawan sustained a fracture in his thumb while fielding against Australia and has been ruled out for 3 weeks. He will miss the games against New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, West Indies and England. All these games will happen in June and all of these are important matches.
He is a very important player for India in ICC tournaments with 6 hundreds. He has this knack of doing well in big tournaments for India. This means that KL Rahul who batted at number 4 might open with Dinesh Karthik or Vijay Shankar batting at number 4. We are not sure how this change is going to affect the opening combination but it will be a good opportunity for K.L Rahul to prove his worth. The replacement for Shikar Dhawan could either be Ambathi Rayadu or Rishabh Pant. Shikar Dhawan will be missed especially after his fantastic hundred.
