Tamizh Padam 2 hits the screens today after heavy promotions through instant poster spoofs by C.S Amudhan. If Tamizh Padam 1 was all about Shiva and D. Tamizh Padam 2 is all about Shiva and P. It is all about how a cop takes down his main enemy. This one line gives way to many famous Tamil Cinema references and cliches we have seen over the years. In a way a sequel like Tamizh Padam 2 is good. It helps us look back all the boring and cliche Tamil films over the years. Tamizh Padam 1 was a general spoof but Tamizh Padam 2 takes a leaf out of cliche police episodes and creates some genuinely funny sequences.
Shiva has a ball as always with his bland brand of comedy. Agila Ulaga Superstar seems to have earned quite a fan following for his humour. There are laughs and whistles every time he comes on screen and he does quite a neat job of what is given to him. Sathish joins the fun and has a meaty role. But the biggest surprises of the film are actress Kalairani and Chetan. For Kalairani it’s a nice diversion from all the weepy roles she had done over the years and Chetan has his moments as well. Iswarya Menon looks pretty and that’s about it.
The songs by N Kannan are different and quirky and adds to the fun element. The biggest problem with the film are the excesses. In an effort to make a spoof film he overdoes things after a point which is tiring and lengthy. There are genuine laugh out loud moments followed by a desperate attempt to make a spoof of everything. Just like the endless posters the sequences drag on and on.
But Tamizh Padam 2 doesn’t take itself seriously and I guess we should too, It’s a harmless fun film you can watch with your friends. It is not an out and out laugh riot but a decent attempt neverthless.
My Rating : 3/5
