With things getting worse nowadays here is again one news which is really unfair and shaky in nature. Muthu(85) and Occammal(80) are from Madurai and both are visually challenged people. They had a son and his name was Murugan. For the past three years this visually challenged couple on a daily basis is coming to Kuraiyur Collector office inorder to give a petition. His only son Murugan was killed by their village people says the couple. When they were asked about their properties and house they said that they were thrown out of their house by the village people. The couple belongs to Kethuvarpatti which is near Peraiyur.
As usual the couple came to the Collector office and gave their petition to the newly appointed collector Rajasekar. They didn’t have money to return to their village and hence they both were seated under a tree near the collector office till night. When the media people noticed them they felt something is wrong and they went to the visually challenged couple and asked why are they here.
Both Muthu and Occammal couldn’t speak as they were starving without food and water. Media people got them some food and further enquired them. They informed the Collector Rajasekar about the couple. The Collector ordered the Red cross society to give first aid to the couple and they were taken to Madurai government hospital through ambulance. The couple was given a separate bed initially but once the Red cross officials left the hospital they were asked to lie on the floor. The hospital officials realised they had no one to help them and hence they asked them to lie on the floor.
Even after Collector’s order the couple was ill treated that to by the Government officials itself and it gives a feel of insecurity to the poor and common people. They visually challenged people deserved respect and proper treatment and their petition has to be taken seriously. Somewhere the government has failed to satisfy their needs.
