There have been quite a few music directors who have silently made a mark in 2018. Let’s look at the Top 6 music directors of 2018.
1.Santhosh Narayanan : ( Vada Chennai, Kaala, Pariyerum Perumal ): What a fantastic year Santhosh Narayanan had. Right from lending voice to oppression through his songs in Kaala and Pareiyerum Perumal to capturing the spirit of Chennai in Vada Chennai this has truly been Santhosh’s year. He’s been top notch with all his songs Santhosh’s unique compositions ensured that the music elevated the film to a different level. In fact the film had one of the best BGM’s for a hero in Vada Chennai.
2.Anirudh ( Thaana Serndha Kootam, Coco and Pettai ): Anirudh once again showed us why he is the heartbeat of today’s youngsters. First there is Thaana Serndha Kootam which had the viral hit Sodakku Mela. But Anirudh didn’t stop with that he once again hit the bull’s eye with Kolamavu Kokila for lady superstar Nayanthara. The songs were a riot especially Gunin Kadhal and Kalyana Vayasu with Yogi Babu. But he wasn’t finished yet. He decided to finish the year on a high with a superstar special. All the albums were in sync with Rajini’s mass appeal and easily became one of the most celebrated albums of 2018.
3.Yuvan Shankar Raja ( Irumbu Thirai , Raja Ranguski, Peranbu, Pyaar Prema Kadhal, Sandakozhi 2, Maari 2 ): Like every year this year too Yuvan Shankar Raja was busy with many films which had it’s own ups and downs. As always he composed for smaller films. But he reserved his best for his own production Pyaar Prema Kadhal which was a wonderful treat for all music lovers.
4.A.R Rahman ( Chekka Chevantha Vaanam, Sarvam Thaala Mayam , Sarkar and 2.0 ): For A.R Rahman 3 Albums were top notch while Sarkar was average by his standard. His collaboration with Rajiv Menon brought back the ARR of the 90’s while CCV was another feather in the cap for Maniratnam A.R.R combo.
5.Govind Vasantha ( Asuravadham, 96, Seethakathi ): Govind Vasantha was Tamil Cinema’s highlight of the year was stellar in his background score in Asuravadham and stole our hearts with 96 before giving life to Seethakathi with his soulful music. Govind Vasantha’s music was all heart and it managed to win us over too.
6.Ghibran ( Visharoopam, Aan Devadhai Ratchasan ): Gibhran had 3 albums this year. For Ghibran while Vishwaroopam 2 songs were an easy listen while the background score of Ratchasan gave us one of the scariest films of our times.
