The Murugan Idli Shop whose kitchen, located inside Ambattur Industrial Estate, has 23 outlets in Chennai. The Food Safety Department of Tamil Nadu suspended the license of the Central kitchen of this Idli shop for maintaining an unhygienic environment in the workplace. Pests. worms, damaged floor, unclean staffs’ caps, and gloves! Yes, the place was an absolute mess and that had led to the temporary suspension. According to the reports, as there were complaints regarding the worms in the food served in the restaurant, the Food Safety Department Officials of Tiruvallur district had visited the Kitchen 50 days ago.
They noticed the unclean areas of the kitchen and damages in the washing area and kitchen floor. The temperature in the refrigerator has also not maintained properly. Adding to this, no clean caps and gloves were provided to the staff members. And, there was a lack of pest control. As the officials noted down many flaws in the hygiene standards, they had asked the restaurant to establish a good environment and had given them the time to rectify.
however, the management has not taken any corrective steps and the complaints never had seemed to stop. Hence the food safety department issued a show-cause notice. The restaurant neglected the notices nad continued to operate in the same unhygienic way. Thus, the officials of the food safety department visited the premises on Tuesday and posted an announcement on the door, informing about the suspension of their license. As per the notice, the restaurant can rectify the violations and approach the food safety department for revoking the suspension.
At this instant, the Chennai Food Safety Department officials have given a notice to an outlet of the restaurant chain at Parrys. This notice was given after a customer complained about the worm in the food lat week. Unsatisfied with the reply from the hotel manager, the customer contacted the food safety department officials and filed a complaint.
